This type of isolation is painful for anyone, let alone a teen in the foster system. She's unable to ever truly feel like a part of her foster family because she has a relative in her ear, constantly making her feel like “other” rather than part of a family unit.
What is the reason for Rick acting this way? We're not sure. We're going to have to chalk it up to something inward he might be dealing with. Maybe he can't fathom that some people are good people. Who knows. All that we do know is that speaking to an innocent teenager with such anger and trying his best to isolate her emotionally is unacceptable and immature.
